ASIAN STUDIES SEMINAR

The course, Seminar for Asian Studies Majors, led by Professor Montgomery, is a capstone course where we study the history and legacy of Confucianism, explore contemporary East Asian societies, learn of gender and sexuality in East Asia, as well as, the global pandemic and its ramifications across Asia.

I am also being afforded the opportunity to conduct scholarly research, peer reviews, and pursue creative projects like a podcast.

PART 1.

PART 2.

Recording of podcast broadcast with Amos Shiau, centering anti-Asian racism in the United States. We encourage a review of the history of the model minority myth (MMM), and its perpetuated stereotype bringing physical, emotional, and structural violence and marginalization of AAPIs.

We also discuss the framing of the MMM by neoconservatives to juxtapose and undermine the civil rights movement.

Tune in on this important issue.
